Governance and Service

Council

Emmaus' Council is the governing board of the Church. Chairs of each Committee, plus the Moderator, the Senior Minister and two Members-at-Large meet monthly to oversee and make decisions about the life of the congregation.

Deacons

The Board of Deacons assists the members of the congregation in meeting their spiritual needs by working with the Senior Minister in planning and conducting worship services and Sacraments. These roles include liturgist, usher, greeter, and after-service hospitality. The Board also oversees the music program, community building and membership rolls.

Stewardship and Finance

The Board of Stewardship and Finance is responsible for all the financial activities within the church. The Board monitors income from Sunday services and other sources, such as facility rental.

Property Planning and Management

The Property Planning and Management Board focuses on the physical facilities of the church, providing for operation and maintenance of the building and grounds. Whether it is repairing plumbing, electrical, furniture, replacing light bulbs, dealing with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, painting, cleaning, or whatever, -- caring for the inside of the church takes effort and patience. The outside also requires effort. The Board deals with lawn and garden care, snow removal, trash removal, trees, plants, parking lots, and sidewalks. And then there is the in-between the inside and the outside -- maintenance or replacement of windows, roofs, walls, trim, and doors.

We hold monthly meetings to discuss what has been done and what needs to be done. We also hold periodic building and grounds days where we enlist the help of the rest of the church to do seasonal activities. Come join our group. We are proud of the way we keep our church in tip-top shape.

Christian Education

Christian Education is a multi-faceted program designed for all ages. The Christian Education Coordinator and the Christian Education Board members work together to offer educational opportunities for all members of the congregation. Adult education classes are offered in direct response to expressed areas of interest by the congregation. Bible study, workshops, and discussion groups on differing topics are offered several times during the year. The Board of Christian Education welcomes ideas and suggestions for education groups and workshops. Learn more about the youth programs, which are organized by age.

Service and Mission

Through our Board of Service and Mission, Emmaus UCC reaches out to the local community and around the world. Members and friends alike participate in various ways to serve and share our ministry with our neighbors wherever they live.
