Kristen (Curlee) McBrayer
Reverend Kristen has been part of the United Church of Christ since childhood. She pursued her undergraduate studies at American University in Washington, D.C. where she earned a BS in Business Administration.
A recipient of the Richard & Helen Brown Scholarship for Pastoral Education, she received her Masters of Divinity degree at Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA. She served as the Senior Pastor at Bethel UCC in Arlington, VA from 2010-2015.
She was Director of Christian Education at Christ Congregational Church in Silver Spring, MD from 2008-2010. In 2013, she was selected to the prestigious Next Generation Leadership Initiative (NGLI) a ten-year UCC transformational program.
Director of Music
Allison Shelby joined Emmaus UCC as the Director of Music in September 2010. She works closely with the Associate Director of Music, Greg Bloy, to support the worship services on piano or organ, directs the choir and runs rehearsals on Sunday mornings.
Along with her duties as Director of Music at Emmaus UCC, Allison runs “Music Playhouse”, a music school for young children here in Vienna. She has enjoyed an active solo career singing in the Northern Virginia area. She graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Music Education. Allison shares that “It is an honor to have been selected to lead this congregation in worship and praise through the use of our musical talents and I am grateful for the opportunity.”
Director of Church Administration
The Director of Church Administration combines three office functions -- Office Manager, Building Use Coordinator & Liaison to Renters, and Role Coordinator.
All aspects of Emmaus' administrative and scheduling life, including HUGENS, should be referred to Jayne. She will be working closely with all Board Chairs, other staff members, our renters, and is always available to assist members and friends.
Coordinator of Christian Education
Matt Knonenborg received his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Shenandoah University in 2012. He then received his Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary, where he discovered his passion for Christian education and formation. Matt has previously served as a lay pastor in the United Methodist Church and on the staff of the Methodist Federation for Social Action, a national network of progressive Christians. Matt is honored and eager to serve the Emmaus UCC community for the next year. He strives to build an education program based in the mission and identity of the church. Christian formation is essential to our faith journeys, as we delve deeper into the mystery and beauty of God in the world.
