Helping the Messiah

Bear with me in a flight of imagination. Suppose you are sitting in your favorite chair, and suddenly an angel appears in your living room.

The angel tells you that you have been chosen to help the Messiah in healing and transforming the world. Where would you start? What would you do?

As the Zen koan says: “Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water.”

I would ask the angle, "Where is He? I want to join with Him. and be a Disciple."

I would continue doing the work I do now with oncology patients, but I would add another dimension. I would like to join a Habitat for Humanity team or an African or Haiti mission group and extend healing outside the boundaries of the comfort of our own home.

three very different and very interesting responses.......

bill bruck confirms the old zen thinking that enlightenment is an attitude that you bring to what you are called to everyday.
helping the messiah for him is doing the daily round, albeit with a sense of Light.

ron wants to be in the presence of the messiah, and be his disciple. perhaps this is a modern day answer to that old call from jesus on the seashore looking for disciples to physically be with him, a call that would ultimately be risky, and yet satisfying.

marsha wants to extend her messiah Light beyond the comfort of her regular rounds to those who need healing and transformation in africa or haiti.

let's see what some others bring!

I think it is interesting to consider if the message of the new Messiah would be materially different from Jesus Christ. Would the issues of the current century like Freedom, Human Rights, Arms Control, Gobal Warming, and Religious Diversity be central to the message of the New Messiah. How would technology affect what is the message, let alone how it is cast upon humanity? It is my belief Jesus was prepared for 21st century issues, just that his then current live audiance was not. The New Messiah would be just able to speak more directly to the current times. I wonder what the message would be in retrospect to the great human tragities of the 20th century: Hitler, Stalin, etc. .

To most effectively and permanently heal and transform the world, you've gotta get to the kids. If I had a magic wand, there would be mandatory worldwide classes - every day - teaching about love, compassion, and caring. They would be taught by teachers who practice what they preach and could guide the children throughout their daily struggles with being kind to each other until it became second nature to the kids, who would then go on to teach the next generation and so on. World Peace achieved w/in 90 years! :)

Without the magic wand... I'd continue to do what I am currently doing - writing children's books that have the same love/compassion message. ;)
